Dorothy Virginia Bakke
Bakke, Dorothy Virginia 89, Postville, Iowa, formerly of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Sunday, September 5, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, Iowa. Dorothy was born on September 24, 1920, in Mayville, North Dakota, to A.C. (Clem) and Emma (Skarnes) Parke. Dorothy married her college sweetheart Lewis "Lewy" on August 26, 1945, in Lakota, North Dakota. Lewy graduated from Luther Seminary. They moved to rural Robinson, Kansas, in 1949, where Lewis accepted the call to Upper Wolf Evangelical Lutheran Church. In 1958, they moved to Lake Mills, Iowa, where her husband served two rural Lutheran parishes, Beaver Creek and Bethel. Survivors include her three children, Stephen (Lois) Bakke, Edina, MN, Rebecca (Peter) Olafsen, Monona, Kathleen (Eric) Peterson, Winona, MN; five grandchildren, Jeff Bakke, Jason Bakke, Phil Olafsen, Cory Peterson, Nate Olafsen, five great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Grace and Charlotte Bakke; Jacob and Jackson Bakke; one sister, Geneva Linington and two brothers-in-law, Donovan (Irene) Bakke and Patrick Morrissey. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lewis in 1988 and two sisters, Phylis Facey and Deloris Morrisey. Memorials may be directed to: M.S. Society, Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, Iowa, or Alzheimer's Association. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010, at 11:30 am at the Normandale Lutheran Church, 6100 Normandale Rd., Edina, Minnesota. Burial will follow in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 10, 2010, one hour before services at the church.
