Dickinson, Wayne D. age 79, of Aitkin, formerly of the Twin Cities and Mora, area died Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at his home near Aitkin. Wayne was born June 30, 1930 in Whited Township of Kanabec County, Minnesota (near Mora) the son of Orlan and Lillian (Dalen) Dickinson. He grew up and attended country school and then the Mora High School. He moved to the Twin Cities and worked for a time. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1950 to 1954. Upon his discharge he returned to the Twin Cities where he and his first wife had their three sons. Wayne also attended the University of Minnesota and received his Associate Degree in Business. He worked for F.W. Dodge a division of McGraw-Hill Publishing starting out as a reporter in 1956. He was promoted to management and worked in offices in Tampa and Miami, Fl., Atlanta Ga., St. Louis, Mo. He finished his career with Dodge as a regional manager in Detroit, Michigan managing 4 offices and 49 employees. as a regional manager. He married Janice M. Rottinghaus on January 8, 1982 at Cincinnati, Ohio. They retired to Hanging Kettle Lake near Aitkin in 1990 where he and his wife built their log home on the lake. His avocation and joy came from carving fishing decoys and waterfowl at which he became very skilled, giving away many of his carvings to family and friends. He also liked fishing, golfing, reading, working outdoors, and especially visiting with his many friends. He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Aitkin, had served as a board member and treasurer of the Jaques Art Center in Aitkin and was a member of the "Bennettville College Coffee Group". Wayne was a good and loving son, brother, husband, father and friend. He always looked for the best in people. Wayne is survived by his loving wife Janice Dickinson of Aitkin; 2 sons and daughter in law: Bradley Dickinson and Mary Beth Conzett of Plymouth, Mn; Brian Dickinson of Plymouth, Mn.; former spouse Patricia Dickinson of Sturgeon Lake, Mn., 1 brother and sister in law: Keith and Jeanne Dickinson of Blaine, Mn.; 2 sisters and brother in law: Betty and Don Sjolie of Mesa, Arz. and Marilyn Herring of North Augusta, South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and many good and valuable friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 1 son Wayne Jr. in 1977. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 11 AM from First Lutheran Church in Aitkin with Rev. Lance Isaacson officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by the Aitkin VFW and American Legion Posts.
