Bottila, Helen Signe age 83, of McGregor died Tuesday, March 9, 2010 in Mercy Health Care Center, Moose Lake. She was born in 1926 to Hjalmer and Hulda Lahti. Helen attended Barnum schools. She married William Bottila on May 9, 1945 in Cloquet. They lived in Minneapolis for five years before returning to the East Lake area. In addition to working with her husband on their farm, Helen was employed for more than 30 years at East Lake Cooperative and then was employed by the Green Thumb Program at McGregor High School. She served as clerk for Spalding Township and she and her husband served as Fire Warden for many years. Helen was a member of Rice River Seniors. She enjoyed working puzzles, sewing, crocheting and gardening. Helen was an excellent cook and her delicious goodies, especially her flat pancakes, were enjoyed by many friends and family through the years. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Bottila on May 11, 2009; her two sisters, Lempi Keinanen and Jennie Olson and a brother, Carl Lahti. Helen is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Linda Rose) of Coon Rapids, Dale of McGregor and Mark (Marti) of Abilene, Texas; two daughters, Judy (Terry) Bodie of Ramsey and Kathy (Rick) Nelson of McGrath; one brother, John (Helen) Lahti of Mahtowa; nine grandchildren, Michelle Gauvin, Shannon Jones, Kenneth Dale Bottila, William J. Bottila, Ranae Underwood, Kyle Bodie, Leah Bodie, Steven Nelson and Lindsey Nelson, and three great- grandchildren, Justin Wencel, Jared Wencel and Randi McGill. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, in Atkins- Northland Funeral Home, 801 14th Street, Cloquet. Visitation will continue from 10:00 until the 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service Saturday, March 13, 2010 in Atkins-Northland Funeral Home, followed by lunch in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Burial will be in Rice River Cemetery.
