Sevick, Kathlyne Mary (nee Peller) 80, a St. Paul native and resident of St. Anthony, MN, died peacefully at home Sun- day, May 14, ending a life guided by religious and personal values in raising five children. As a loving mother with energy and insightfulness, she parented with a deep belief in encouraging each to explore and develop their potentials as they grew and entered serving occupations. She valiantly resisted the damaging effects of multiple sclerosis for 23 years. She had a focus on fitness and health. Her caring included the many pets that became part of the family. Other interests included sewing and having a brightly-flowered yard. She was born Aug. 24, 1942, was raised in the Merriam Park neighborhood of St. Paul, attended St. Mark's grade school, Central High School and the University of Minnesota for a degree in elementary education, beginning a teaching career in the St. Paul schools, where her father, James Peller Sr., taught for 36 years. Her sister, LaVonne, now of Orlando, Florida, who survives her, also taught in St. Paul. While teaching in Munster, Indiana, Kathlyne met her future husband, Joseph, who survives her. They returned to the Twin Cities in 1973 to raise a family. A husband of 54 years, Joseph was at her side while working as a copy editor for 38 years at the St. Paul Pioneer Press. In Kathlyne's final years he has been her 24/7 helper in providing all the supports needed to battle and endure multiple sclerosis. All the family, along with the Plumb and Swanson families of Minneapolis, gave love and support. Essential were the contributions of caring medical professionals and dedicated caregivers, for whom the family is deeply grateful. She was preceded in death by her father, and mother Dorothy Peller, and her brothers, James, John and Jerry. Her surviving children are Thomas Carney, [David Sevick by adoption] (Mary), of Shoreview, a St. Paul educator; Brian, of St. Anthony, at home to give support; Kevin (Julie), of Duluth, healthcare management at Essentia Health; Craig (Zoua), of New Brighton, a Robbinsdale Schools educator; and Carolyn (Jason), of Elk River, an Allina Health nurse.
