Rasmussen, Roland (as in Poland) David age 91, of Edina, Nisswa and Naples died on October 15, 2022. Roland was preceded in death by his son Phillip, and will be deeply missed every day by his wife of 71 years Betty, his children and their spouses Jenny & Mark Bretheim, Johanna, Paul Rasmussen & Trish Van Pilsum, Karl and Missy Rasmussen; his grandchildren and their spouses Sam Bretheim and Angela Kohtz, Ellen Bretheim, Eric and Kelly Anne Bretheim, Andrew and Lisa Rasmussen, Talla Rasmussen and Donald Bluhm, Olivia Rasmussen, Avery Rasmussen, Leif Rasmussen, Sarah Rasmussen and Peter Holms, and David Rasmussen; his sweet great grandchildren Sidney, Rohen and Kyrie; and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends. Roland's gregarious nature, quick wit, and generous soul are expressed in his many enduring friendships. Roland was born in Duluth, grew up in Minneapolis, and proudly attended Southwest High School and St. Olaf College. He started his career young at Hawkinson Grocery, excelled at Fuller Brush Company, and flourished with Rasmussen Import Company. Roland was an early leader in efforts to make our community more inclusive for people of all abilities, especially through his contributions in building the first facilities and programs for those with Down syndrome. He proudly celebrated his Norwegian heritage with his close friends at Torske Klubben, and optimistically supported Minnesota sports teams, especially the Vikings, through many, many tough seasons. Roland and Betty traveled the world together and with friends, but his cherished place was where the family was together. Takk for alt, SKOL, Grazie prego, Salut, dear Roland. A memorial service celebrating Roland's life will be held on Friday, October 28, at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN.
