Wegleitner, Al former resident of Hopkins, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at 102 years old on August 19, 2022, in Scottsdale, AZ. After living in Minnesota for 62 years, he and his wife retired to AZ in 1982. While in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945, he attended St. Mary's College and Columbia University. He is a graduate of St John's University (Collegeville, Mn) where he and his wife Perry established the active Wegleitner Family Scholarship Fund in 1982. Al began an architectural career in 1946. In 1952 he attained a junior partnership in a Minneapolis firm and subsequently in 1958, he founded a firm in Minneapolis with a partner. He headed the firm until his retirement in 1982. The firm attained national recognition in the Engineering News Record where they were ranked among the top 500 architectural and engineering firms in the country. He took quiet pride in being personally involved in the design and coordination of the projects for which the firm specialized. This is reflected in his community involvement. Al served 10 years on the Board of Northwestern Bank Metro West, as Chairman of the Planning Commission and headed his church board. He was also a member of both the Chamber of Commerce and Knights of Columbus. Al was a registered architect in Minnesota and surrounding states and held the National Council certification. During his career, he held various offices in the AIA at both the state and local level. In his spare time, Al pursued golf, photography, ham radio, arts and crafts. Al is survived by his four children Kurt (Sue) Wegleitner (Los Angeles, CA), Paul Wegleitner (Bloomington, MN), Mari (Jack) Braatz (Minnetonka, MN) and Carol Wegleitner (Denver, CO), in addition to grandchildren Jack and Kate Wegleitner and brother Norbert Wegleitner. He is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Margaret ("Perry"), and his twin son Alan and daughter Ellen who died shortly after their birth. Funeral services will take place at 10am, Friday September 30th at St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church, 1310 Mainstreet, Hopkins, MN. His Celebration of Life immediately follows at the Scoreboard Bar & Grill, 5765 Sanibel Drive, Minnetonka, MN. (2.5 mile drive, next to the cemetery) Burial scheduled for that afternoon at St. Margaret Cemetery, 11015 Bren Road, Minnetonka, MN. In lieu of flowers, if desired, contributions can be made to the existing Wegleitner Family Scholarship Fund at St. John's University, in Collegeville, Minnesota.
