Beck, Constance Lovaas age 95, died on September 12, 2022 in Roseville, Minnesota. Born in Madagascar, to missionary parents David and Emma Lovaas. Connie came to the U.S. with her family in 1931 and lived in St. Paul MN and later in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin. She graduated from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN in 1949 and served as a parish worker at St. Timothy Lutheran Church, Chicago, IL for two years. In 1952 Connie was called by the Lutheran Church to become a missionary in Madagascar (a former French Colony). Connie studied French in Paris for one year to utilize the French language as a medium to learn Malagasy, the language of Madagascar. She worked as a missionary in Madagascar until 1976. During that time she developed a Sunday School curriculum in Malagasy for the Malagasy Lutheran Church and later was in charge of Bible correspondence courses and audience relations for the Radio Voice of the Gospel recording studio in Antsirabe. Upon return to the US she worked in the American Lutheran Church offices and Augsburg Publishing House, Minneapolis, MN. She was editor of Scope, the magazine of the ALC Women, from 1979 through 1988. Until her retirement in 1990, she edited devotional publications. Connie married Victor W. Beck in 1981. Victor died in 1993. She married Duane A. Olson in 2008. Duane died in 2015. Connie was also preceded in death by her parents, David and Emma Lovaas, stepmother Alta Trygstad Lovaas, sisters, Evelyn Lovaas and Dorothy Overvold. She is survived by her sister Catherine Stulken, as well as nieces and nephews. From her marriages is survived by: Beck stepchildren Paul (Maribeth) Beck and Carol (James) Flaten, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Olson stepchildren Jon (Jean) Olson, Kathryn (Richard) Jefferson, Philip (Caren) Olson, James (Cathleen) Olson, Karen Zibolski, and Laura (Steve) Houfek, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Memorial Service 2pm Saturday, Sept. 24th at Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3115 Victoria Street North, Roseville, MN 55113. Visitation one hour prior to the service. Memorials preferred to Lutheran Church of the Resurrection or Global Health Ministries (7831 Hickory St NE, Fridley, MN 55432)
