Kertson, Jeffrey William age 62, of Excelsior died suddenly of heart-related issues on 7/16/2022. Jeff was born to parents James W. and Mildred Kertson of Wayzata. He was also welcomed into the home by twin older siblings Jacqueline and James M. He is survived by his wife Teresa Popadiuk Kertson, and children Jackson and Madeline. He is also survived by sister Jacqueline (Robert) Cassidy, sister-in-law Ann (Christopher) Larson,brother-in-law Michael Popadiuk, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends. Jeff spent his childhood living and playing on Brown's Bay, Lake Minnetonka. He also loved to watch his father's band, the Jimmie Kertson Orchestra, perform at different venues around the region. He attended Wayzata schools and graduated in 1978. He then graduated from Mt. Senario College in Ladysmith, WI. where he was an All-American, National Championship soccer player while earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Sciences. He returned to MN after college and worked as a carpenter while also managing, then owning Cheepskate Roller Rink of Minnetonka for many years. During this time, he frequently visited BWCA and shared his love and knowledge of nature by leading canoe trips for his home church, Wayzata Community Church, and other groups of friends. After closing Cheepskate he continued to work as a carpenter/contractor. His last 7 years were spent as the Woodshop Lead at the Bernard Group in Chanhassen, MN. Jeff's passion for soccer led him to play in various leagues throughout the Twin Cities, including a semi-pro men's team. He was also very committed to his coaching career at the MN Olympic Development Program and especially for the last 30+ years at Wayzata High School. Jeff was even more passionate about his friends and family. He was fiercely loyal and always found time to stay in touch with his friends. He had a deep impact on the many groups of friends that he made over his lifetime and will be missed by all. A Memorial Celebration will be held on Friday, August 12 at Westwood Community Church, 3121 Westwood Drive Excelsior, MN 55331. Visitation 10:00 AM, Service 11:00 AM, Luncheon following service. Friends have set up a Go Fund Me account for the family of Jeff Kertson.
