Duffy, Hon. David M. Hon. David M. Duffy, of Minneapolis, MN & Redington Shores, FL, Retired Senior Judge of the Hennepin County District Court, died from cancer on Saturday, January 15, 2022, under Hospice care in Clearwater, Florida. David was born on July 10, 1947, in Brockton, Massachusetts, the youngest of three sons of Walter and Mildred Duffy. He attended LaSalle High School in Philadelphia, PA where he was an honor student and varsity swimmer. He received his undergraduate degree in Economics from Villanova University in Philadelphia, PA. He later attended Villanova Law School and graduated with honors in 1972. David was admitted to the California Bar where he practiced for a time before relocating to Minneapolis, MN to continue his legal career. In 1977 he joined the Office of the Hennepin County Public Defender as an Assistant Public Defender. His advocacy for the poor and his appellate skills were rewarded by Governor Rudy Perpich who in 1987 appointed him to the position of Hennepin County District Judge, where he served honorably and competently until his retirement in 2012. He was a former member of the Fourth Judicial District Executive Committee. David spent the winters of his retirement years at his Florida home in Redington Shores, FL where many of his colleagues, friends and family visited. David was preceded in death by his father (Walter, Sr.), his mother (Mildred) and his brother (Edward). He is survived by his older brother (Walter, Jr.) and his many beloved nephews and nieces. A memorial and celebration of his life will be scheduled for a time later this year. The family requests no flowers but if anyone wishes to send a memorial, donations to a charity of the donor's choosing are preferred.
