McDonald, Deacon James Francis "Deacon Jim" Age 78. Deacon Jim passed from the loving arms of his family into the loving arms of God on December 3, 2021. Jim was known for his enormous smile that greeted everyone he met no matter what the circumstance. Jim was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 6, 1942 to John and Clara McDonald. Jim began his work career with IBM in 1968. In 1979 he was relocated to Minneapolis, MN to build a new Call Center in Downtown Minneapolis. He remained with IBM until 1991 after 23 years of service. On September 25, 1982, Jim was Ordained as a Permanent Deacon for the Archdiocese of St Paul/Minneapolis. His first Parish assignment was his home parish Holy Name of Jesus in Medina where he served from 1982-1986. Jim was reassigned to St Therese of Deephaven in 1986. In 1991 after leaving IBM Jim became a full time Member of the Parish Staff as well as serving as their Permanent Deacon. He thrived as a Pastoral Minister. His interests and gifts were centered around teaching and preaching the word of God. Serving the Pastoral needs of the parish community through RCIA, Baptismal and Marriage preparation and presiding over them. He presided at Wake services and supported and consoled those who grieved regardless of their loss. He was a patient and excellent listener. To support his interests in teaching, Counseling, and Pastoral Ministry, Jim went back to school. He received his Master of Arts in Theology in 1988 from St Thomas University. 1992 he earned a Doctor of Pastoral Ministry Degree from the Luther Northwestern Theological Seminary. In 1994 he was conferred the Degree of Master of Arts in Adlerian Psychology from the Alfred Adler Institute of Minnesota. He was an active member of the American Association of Pastoral Counselors and the Association for Death Education and Counseling until his full retirement in 2018. He also served on the Adjunct Faculty of the St Paul Seminary and School of Divinity 1996-1997 teaching Introduction to Pastoral Ministry. In 2004 Jim was again reassigned to St Hubert's Church in Chanhassen where he served as a member of their Pastoral Staff until 2009. From St Hubert's Jim joined the Great Lakes Management Group which was opening a new Senior Living complex in Minnetonka. At The Glenn of Minnetonka, Jim served the residents there as their Director of Pastoral Ministry helping the seniors transition into a new community by teaching them how to take care of one another by praying with one another and listening to with one another. In 2018 with great reluctance, but with increasing health issues, he retired from active ministry. He was preceded in death by his parents and older infant brother. Deacon Jim is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Gloria. Sons: John (Brenda), David and Mark. Grandson: Matthew. Sisters: Maureen Fitch, Eileen (Julio) Salinas and Brother Kevin McDonald. Many nieces, nephews, friends and colleagues. Masks will be required at this service and visitation and Social Distancing is Highly Recommended. Mass of Christian Burial Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021 at 11AM at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church, 155 Co Rd 24, Medina (763-473-7901). Visitation Monday, Dec. 13, 4-7PM with a prayer service at 6:30PM all at Huber Funeral Home, 520 2nd St., Excelsior. Visitation also 1 hour prior to Mass on Tuesday.
