Staneslow, Jean passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 10, 2021 after a brief illness. She is survived by her sister, Noel Achille, her brother William Appleberry and his wife Marie of Warren, MI, her daughter Alice Veenstra, her wife Carol Flavin-Veenstra and their son William Veenstra of Canterbury, NH, and her life partner Paul Staneslow. Originally from Livonia, Jean was the first in her family to go to college, receiving a Bachelors from the University of Detroit. She married David Veenstra and moved to Stoughton, Wisconsin where she received her MSW from the University of Wisconsin Madison before settling in Minneapolis. She was a social worker for Hennepin County for 25 years. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, November 21, 2021 at First Unitarian Universalist Church at 3400 Dupont Avenue South, Minneapolis. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested on behalf of First Unitarian Universalist Church or Meda, a CDFI in North Minneapolis providing loans and technical assistance to Black, Latinx, Native American, and Asian-owned businesses (meda.net).
