Bassett, Barbara J. Ph.D. 84, of Plymouth, died peacefully the morning of November 3rd, 2021. A visitation will be held Monday, November 15th from 4-7p.m. at Washburn-McReavy Edina Chapel and a memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 16th at 11a.m. at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church in Minneapolis. Barbara was born on June 18th, 1937 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She attended the University of Detroit where she earned a bachelor's degree in English and met her husband and father of her children, William. Barbara and her family moved to Mankato, Minnesota in 1968, working and raising their children there. Barbara had a deep passion for learning and teaching, and she was an Instructor at South Central College in Mankato. A lifelong learner, Barbara earned a Ph.D. in Adult Education at the University of Minnesota in 2002. She spent much of her retirement mentoring students at MCTC, traveling the world, and spending time with loved ones. An avid traveler, Barbara contributed to many service trips with Global Volunteers and never missed an opportunity to immerse herself in new cultures. Barbara was a frequent patron of the Guthrie Theater and enjoyed sharing her passion with her friends and family. Barbara always went above and beyond to ensure that her children and grandchildren had every opportunity to learn and grow. Her loved ones will always cherish the memory of her vibrant spirit and positive outlook on life. Memorials preferred to Second Harvest Heartland. Private interment at Lakewood Cemetary. Preceded in death by parents John and Genevieve Chapla, brother John Michael, and former husband William Bassett. Survived by their children Victoria (Chuck) Raymond, Marty (Katie), Elizabeth, and Gregory (Jana Hilleren); grandchildren Michael (Jennifer), Bill, Richard, Grace (Josh) LeClaire, Alexander, Anne, and Thomas; great-granddaughters Maddie and Ruth; brothers Bob (Sue) and Rick (Willow) Chapla.
