Acton, Beatrice Seabury On Wednesday, October 13, 2021, Beatrice Seabury Acton (Bea), loving mother of five children, passed away peacefully at the age of 96. Beatrice was born on February 26, 1925 in Boston, MA to Howland and Rosamond Seabury. She married Robert Lovett Sturgis in 1944, and worked in an armament factory in Los Angeles with her parents while her husband was active in the war in Europe. They had 5 children, four of whom became adults - Robert Jr., Sheldon, Siri and Jeffrey Sturgis - and one of whom, Sandra, passed away as an infant. Upon her husband's return from the war, she moved to Wayzata, MN, where she raised her family, and where she lived until her death. Beatrice loved the out of doors. She was an avid skier, and skied the slopes of New Hampshire with her brother and father on many weekends growing up in the Northeast. She adopted cross-country skiing after moving to Minnesota - more suited the flatter Midwest - and skied many winter days through her 80's. She grew up near the ocean, and loved the water. She greatly enjoyed her Wisconsin lake homes on Madeline Island, and Deep Lake. She was a strong swimmer, and was in the pool for water aerobics throughout the year into her mid-90's. Her athletic endeavors were not limited to the out of doors. She played competitive tennis throughout the year. Woe to the player who did not want to hit a backhand return of serve; virtually every one of Bea's serves was directed to the backhand. Beatrice was a consistent supporter of many environmental and women's causes. She cared deeply for the natural world around her. She was an avid reader, and consumed a wide variety of books. Beatrice was a grand lady, and she will be missed by her children, her friends, and her many grandchildren. She expressed a keen desire to re-unite with her father, her brother and her eldest son in the hereafter. We hope that the Lord grants her that wish.
