Cummings, Peggy E. age 66, of New Franken, WI passed away peacefully September 29, 2021 at the Jack and Engrid Meng Hospice Residence in De Pere with her husband at her side. A strong and unending faith helped her courageously battle cancer; a journey which began for her in August 2020. Her tenacity was inspirational and will be remembered by all who loved and supported her. Peggy was born in Racine, WI on August 28, 1955; daughter of the late Roger and Cheryl (Newman) Gilbert. She graduated from William Horlick High School and furthered her education at Bryant & Stratton (International Secretarial Degree) and the University of Minnesota Mankato (magna cum laude) with a degree in Marketing and Accounting. She was united in marriage to Earl Cummings on June 2, 1979. With a remarkable voice and passion for music, Peg began her singing career in high school as the lead female role of Ensign Nellie Forbush in the musical South Pacific. At the young age of 19 she joined Sweet Adelines where she competed in numerous World Top 10 choruses and quartets and gained many lifelong friends. As a beautiful, caring, generous, talented, light-hearted, well-read, strong person with an infectious smile, she was truly a gift to many. Peg was an old soul who took great care of individuals she met. As a hospice volunteer for over 25 years, she often said, "the greatest gift is witnessing new life when entering this world and equally joyous is being with those in their final moments." She served at the First United Methodist Church of Green Bay food pantry in addition to filling other ministry roles at her church. For a time, she mentored ESL students in a middle school book club setting. Her avid love of animals, flowers, and wildlife has been displayed each year in her decorative potted planters and creative backyard bird feeding station. She and her husband are life members of Ducks Unlimited and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. Peggy is survived by her husband Earl; sisters and brother: Mary Ann (Paul) Blezien of Waconia, MN, Carol Wilson of Warren, OH, and Roger (Karen) Gilbert Jr of Lee's Summit, MO; special aunt, Margaret Newman of Cordele, GA; Sweet Adeline Sisters throughout the world; and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on October 8, 2021, at First United Methodist Church of Green Bay, 501 Howe Street, from 10:30am until the time of Peg's Memorial Service at 11:30. Reverends Dave Wilkinson and David Kalas will officiate. A celebration (Afterglow) of Peg's life will follow at the English Inn in Green Bay, WI. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery, Athelstane, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Peg's honor, to a high school music program of your choice would allow a bit of Peg to live on in song.
