Nelson, Karen Strachauer 80, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2021 in Edina, MN, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's. Karen was born in Minneapolis on November 22, 1940 to Hermann and Sally Strachauer and raised in Edina. Karen was a Kappa Kappa Gamma at Drake University and started her first career as a teacher in Denver. Karen began her second career as a proud small business owner, purchasing Rochford Upholstery with her sister Liz in the late 1980's and loved serving her clients until she became ill. Karen married her high school sweetheart Bob in 1990 and they enjoyed traveling and had many adventures together both domestic and abroad. Karen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dr. Robert T. Nelson in June of 2020, her only daughter Merritt Kazda in 2012 and her sisters Liz Strachauer and Cyndy Strachauer. She is survived by her son-in-law Mike Kazda and grandson Sam Kazda; Bob's children Greg (Dayna), Cynthia and Julie; Bob's sister Marge (Dick) Kellor; her nephews and nieces and many lifelong friends. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, October 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Mount Olivet Lutheran Church, 5025 Knox Ave S., Minneapolis. Interment will be at the Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a future date. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association or to the family in order to plant a tree in Karen's memory in Strachauer Park in Edina. Washburn-McReavy.com Edina Chapel 952-920-3996
