Hayes, James R. Age 90. Born in Brooklyn, NY, graduated from Erasmus Hall High School and served in the USMC during the Korean War. Receiv-ed B.S. and Ph.D degrees from Syracuse University and taught anthropology and sociology at Southern Illinois University, Akita, Japan, and for 24 years, at Southwest MN State University. James is survived by his wife of 62 years, Adrienne, four children: Jacqueline, Bryan, Douglas, Michelle, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Genevieve and John B. Hayes, brothers John and Robert, and sister Gloria. James dedicated his life to both teaching and learning, and enthusiastically embraced the wonders of the human experience. He is fondly remembered as a kind and generous person who was deeply committed to his students, his family, and to environmental and social movements that sought peace and justice.
