Bornhoft, Bryan Gerard 54, son, brother, husband, father, friend, foodie, traveler, fighter, poet, artist, average golfer and above average musician passed away on Friday, July 16, 2021, following an 8 1/2 year battle with prostate cancer. A lover of all music, Bryan often wondered why today's musicians don't use a spoken intro to a song - the kind where a narrator just talks at the beginning, setting the stage for the song. So, in the spirit of using the infrequent, Bryan will provide this intro and we will take over to finish. Remember when the days were long. We didn't have a care in the world. When you look back, it went fast. I tried to understand it up until the end, but I never did. But I do know just cause I'm leaving doesn't mean we will be apart. And, while my time here may not have been long, it was epic, and I had a great seat. It was too soon, but that phrase seems a bit cliché for Bryan; nothing about him lacked original thought. Bryan's life was an event, staged for entertainment, courage, love and suffering. Born in the great state of South Dakota, Bryan chased the early dream to move to a big city and together with his wife and soulmate, Patty, they found their way to Minneapolis-St. Paul. They laid their roots here and had three beautiful children: Alex, Jake and Zach. Bryan was an accountant by trade, an artist by nature and perhaps the best youth sports coach in the entire world, likely due to a remarkable memory of his legendary childhood and high school athletic accomplishments. Bryan was always there for people who needed an ear and took extreme pride in his wife and children - whom he is certain will be the success story of his life. Because of his quick wit, great hair, and vast knowledge of worthless information he made friends easily and was able to connect with people from all backgrounds and belief systems. To be sure, Bryan participated in the game of life. And, he spent a large part of it trying to figure out how best to play it with the time God gave him. If one assumes that a person's life should conform to societal dictates; Bryan failed. If, however, one assumes that life is a process of growth; driven by a desire to live; a spirit hard to kill; righting wrong turns; and finding peace with the hand you are dealt Bryan, wellBryan was exceptional. Goodbye for now and rest in peace, my husband, father and friend. Just because you have left us now doesn't mean we will be apart. Bryan is survived by his wife Patty (Krier) and their children: Alex, Jake and Zach; his mother Sandra, his siblings, Amy DeBondt (Jeff), Joel (Lora), Chad (Beth), and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, in-laws, cousins and friends. And, Bryan now joins the ranks of those who have gone before him, his father, Gary Bornhoft, grandparents and one uncle, to meet our Lord in Heaven, that wonderful place where he can socialize, laugh, sing, draw, play guitar and finally play a decent round of golf.
