Gerald 'Gerry' Evenson
Evenson, Gerald "Gerry" Gerald Roger Evenson, a very youthful 79, passed peacefully on May 25, 2021 after a difficult and courageous battle with acute pancreatitis. Gerry was born May 7, 1942, in Cogswell, ND, the seventh of 10 children, to Harold and Minnie Evenson. His brother Arnold and he moved to Dilworth and lived with his sister Tony, and her husband Gene, during high school, where Gerry loved to play hockey. He served as an MP in the U.S. Army at Ft. Leonardwood, MO. He enjoyed a successful career with AT&T, Western Electric, and Lucent Technology for 35 years. After retiring, Gerry and Joan worked closely with their son, Greg, in his mortgage business for over 12 years. Gerry continued working with Greg on property management and truly enjoyed his special bond with Greg as a father and best friend. Gerry and Joan were married for 54 years and lived life to the fullest every day. Their lake homes were great places for celebrating all events and seasons. They loved being on the water and sharing that life with family and friends for more than 43 years. His kindness, patience and amazing smile let everyone know there was no place he'd rather be than surrounded by those he loved. Gerry was passionate about flying, sailing, boating, water skiing, skating and snow skiing. He generously and happily spent hundreds of hours pulling Greg, extended family and multitudes of friends on water skis, inner tubes and surfboards. He took great pride in earning his pilot's license and loved flying as well. In his later years, he enjoyed nothing more than sharing his love of sailing with Joan, Greg, Lisa, Aubrey, Sandy, (and of course TJ and Tucker), and anyone who would follow the Captain's lead and take joy in the experience. A devoted and caring husband, loving father and adoring grandfather, Gerry saw the beauty and positivity in the world. His generosity and kindness was limitless. We were certain he would outlive us all. Gerry will be missed greatly, but never forgotten by the many who knew and loved him. Memorial service to be held Monday, June 7, 11:00 a.m. at Plymouth Covenant Church, 4300 Vicksburg Lane North, Plymouth, MN. Luncheon following service. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to Plymouth Covenant Church or charities of your choice in honor of Gerry.
