Mom, aka Grandma Joe, was born on February 25, 1935 and grew up in Blaine MN, where she attended Immaculate Conception School and graduated from Saint Anthony of Padua. In 1952, she met the love of her life and they married in 1954 and spent the next few decades raising their five children and building a local waste hauling company, Walters Disposal Service, and spending weekends at the cabin in Hackensack, MN. After selling the business in 1984, Mom tried out retirement by splitting time between Minnesota and Riggins, Idaho where she spent her time horseback riding, four wheeling, picking flowers, making jam, and hosting many friends and family. Mom did not take to retirement too easily and helped her three sons start their own waste hauling company in 1988 called Walters Recycling and Refuse. She worked for them until her real retirement just 2 years ago at 84. If you know anything about Mom, it is that she loved the Lord and loved people, she made everyone she came into contact with feel special and never wanted to be a burden to anyone. And if you had not seen her in a while, she would send you a letter, like any good Grandma would. We miss you Mom, God bless you. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2021 at St. Bridget of Sweden Catholic Church, Lindstrom, MN. Visitation 4:00 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at Grandstrand Funeral Home, Lindstrom, MN. A private family interment will take place at a later date.
