McIntosh, Robert J. resident of Bloomington MN, previously of Westborough and Weymouth, MA, passed away Sunday Feb 7 at the age of 94. He was born January 18, 1927 in Weymouth, MA, and lived a life of joy, filled with experiences he never imagined given his humble origin, a sentiment he often expressed in his final years. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Joanne. He also is preceded by his parents Robert J and Isabelle, his six siblings Madelyn (Nalband), Betty (Labadie), Billy, John, Dick & Eddie, and son in law Mike Elinski. He is survived by his six children: Kathy Elinski of Phoenix, AZ; Paul McIntosh (Michelle) of Eden Prairie, MN; Lynne Vanderslice (Paul) of Wilton, CT; Dave McIntosh (Kim) of Minneapolis, MN; Brian McIntosh of Chicago, IL and Mary Jane Jallen of St. Paul, MN. Additionally, he leaves behind eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren, a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Bob was born outside of Boston and raised during the depression. He delivered newspapers, caddied and read electric meters as a schoolboy to aid family finances. Immediately following high school, Bob enlisted in the Navy on his 18th birthday, and was stationed in China when WWII ended. Following his service, he earned an associate degree in accounting from what is now Bentley College while simultaneously working at Weymouth Light and Power, later known as New England Electric, where he worked for his entire 45+ year professional career. His retirement lasted thirty-four years, during which he and Joanne moved from Massachusetts to Minnesota. They also spent many winter months in Hilton Head, SC. Bob's life was defined by his marriage and family, his sense of civic responsibility, and his love of sports, particularly golf. He competed at the sport until injuries no longer permitted, shooting his age for the first time at 71 and for the last time at 88. He made friends wherever he went: grocery stores, restaurants, golf courses, and hospitals. He relished meeting people and hearing their stories. He was a member of Saint Bonaventure Catholic Church in Bloomington, MN. He lived out his faith in his actions towards others, treating strangers with the same respect and interest as friends.
