Thomases, Kenneth "Ken" S. 51, beloved son, brother, and co- worker, died of renal cancer on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, peacefully at N.C. Little Hospice in Edina, Minnesota. Born in Rockland County, NY, and raised in New City, NY, where he graduated from Clarkstown High School North, Ken attended Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, thereafter making Minnesota his life-long home. A computer prodigy from childhood, Ken graduated from Carleton in 1993 with a degree in Computer Science and soon after found employment at Codeweavers, Inc., a software development company. Ken spent his entire career at Codeweavers 27 years where his role as its core macOS developer has been described as "a pivotal part of [the company's] corporate success - his work was central to bringing the Open Source Wine software to Apple computers, enabling millions of people to better enjoy their Macs." A deeply private man, Ken is remembered by his colleagues as much for his humility and kindness as for his technology problem-solving abilities and true brilliance. He was friend, mentor, teacher, lunch buddy, confidante, and he entertained many with his wit, snarky humor, and love of laughter. A big and big-hearted man, Ken was a unique individual who was loved and respected by all who knew him. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Robert A. Thomases, of Pomona, NY. He is survived by his mother Judi Cacioppo of Magnolia, DE; his stepmother Joanne Goodman of Rhinebeck, NY; his sister Hollis Thomases Williams of Wilmington, DE; his brother Andrew Thomases of Menlo Park, CA; and his half-sister Caroline Goodman- Thomases of Clinton Corners, NY. A celebration of Ken's life will be planned for a future date. Memorial donations to honor Ken can be made in his name to the Electronic Privacy Information Center at epic.org.
