Martin, Roger Bond 1936-2020 On Dec. 21st, in the evening of the winter solstice and the celestial Christmas star event, it became our turn to say goodbye to our special loved one. It seems heaven was in need of another trumpet player, baritone, football lineman, National Guardsman, Landscape Architect and teacher. Roger grew up in Detroit Lakes, MN. He received his continuing education at the U of MN and Harvard, obtaining a Master's degree in Landscape Architecture. Roger has a long list of accomplishments and awards including the Rome Prize. When once asked by his family how he would like to be remembered he said as a good husband, father and friend. They assured him he had been that and much, much, much more. He died as he lived, with gratitude and little fanfare. Preceded in death by his parents, T.G. and Audrey Martin and sister, Virginia Leritz. Roger is survived by his wife, Janis, of 58 years, his sons, Thomas (Kristi), Stephen (Erin) and Jonathan, grandsons, Andrew (Megan), Matthew, Joshua, and Ryan; great grandchildren, Cloe and Coen; sister, Bonnie Kane (Jim); nephews, Jack, Jim, Joe and David; family and friends. We give special thanks to our palliative and hospice care team. Your compassion for others was a great comfort. We hope to celebrate Roger's life at a future date. Private family graveside gathering is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: Sts. Luke & James Episcopal Church 4557 Colfax Ave. Mpls. 55419 or Roger B Martin Travel Prize University of Minnesota Foundation PO Box 860266 Mpls., Mn. 55486
