Phyllis A. Wirkkula
Wirkkula, Phyllis A. Age 86, of Hopkins, MN, died peacefully November 17, 2020. Born in Minneapolis, MN and graduated from St. Louis Park High School. Veter an of the U.S. Navy, she served as an airman and aviation electronic technician during the Korean War; recipent of the Korean War Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Longtime employee of Methodist Hospital and Washburn-McReavy chapels. Active in several volunteer pursuits in the Hopkins community and LCA's Lutheran Church Women. Loved travel, history, games, bird watching, Bible study, and above all enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends. Preceded in death by husband, John E. Wirkkula; father Ewald G. Westermann; mother Mabel H. Westermann Anderson; brother Gorden K. Westermann; and sister Lucille E. Watson. Survived by sons, Scott (Cynthia) McLearen and Ward Wirkkula; daughters, Julie (John) Degn and Leanne Wirkkula; beloved grandchildren, Alixanna (Jesse) Norris, Marcus McLearen, Kati (Jeff Helseth) Wirkkula, Kelli (Eric) Hanson, Tara (Damon) Kalar, Mariah (Corrinn Harris) Baylor; precious great- grandchildren, Annabelle, Anderson, Olivia, Rowan, Poppy, Olympia, and Kayden; and loving brothers and sisters in law, special cousins, nieces and nephews, 5 Godchildren; extended family, and friends. Memorial service will be held Tues 11/24 at 11 AM; followed by interment at Shady Oak Cemetery.
