Fowler, Helen Maye (Nystrom) age 85 of Fridley, passed away peacefully on October 11, 2020. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Maye Nystrom; siblings Ruby, Darryl, Betty, Leroy, Gary and Ronald. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Charles Fowler. Who would have known a bet at a Minneapolis Vocational High School dance that determined who had to dance with the "tall girl" would create such a wonderful life? Helen and Charles were the perfect example of a forever love and they created a beautiful life together. From the day they were engaged on a streetcar in Minneapolis and throughout their 67 years of marriage they loved each other completely. Helen's life was centered around her family. She always knew the right thing to say at the right time to help navigate troubled waters, to brighten a day or stir a laugh. She was blessed with five children. Helen is loved and remembered by her children, Scott (Sue) Fowler, Jodie (Bill) Norling, Karen Fowler, Tim Fowler, Patti (Joe) Zafke and her siblings, Joyce Kari and Doug Nystrom. She was incredibly proud of her family and had a special place in her heart for her 33 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. Outside of her family activities Helen will be remembered for her civic duties. She served as an election judge and believed that voting was a great privilege and duty. She was an advocate for education and served on the Independent School District #16 School Board in Spring Lake Park for many years. Helen touched many lives with her infectious smile and sassy disposition. Each of us will hold on to the lessons of love, compassion and strength she brought to our lives. She will be remembered as a loving wife, wonderful mother, protective grandmother and a loyal friend. Open visitation will be held Sunday, October 25th, 3-7 PM at Holcomb- Henry-Bloom-Purcell Funeral Home, 515 W.
