Carlson, Kathryn Ruth, age 79, died October 13 at Northridge Care Center in New Hope. Born in Green Bay, WI, she was raised in Duluth, graduated from Duluth East High School in 1959, then Katharine Gibbs Secretarial School in New York City. After living and working in Minneapolis in the early 60's she moved to San Francisco where in the mid-70's she received a degree as a registered nurse. She worked as a nurse in San Francisco and in Portland, OR, returning to MN in the mid-90's. She completed her nursing career at Park Nicollet. Kathryn found joy and companionship with her beloved dogs: Cookie, Flower and Blossom. She was a firm believer in animal rescue and supported the Humane Society. When health issues kept her confined at home she discovered QVC and their free return policy, and she became an avid customer. Lots of boxes were at her door, coming and going, and she proudly displayed her purchases and shopping prowess without leaving her house. She treasured her long-time friendships with girlfriends from high school and often joined them for monthly lunches. She is survived by siblings George (Joan) Carlson of Minneapolis and Barbara (John) Hey of Houston, TX and their children. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and Leslie Carlson. As requested, Kathryn will be cremated and her ashes scattered, along with the cremains of her pampered pets. There will be no public gathering. Stay safe, offer a toast, and think of a fond memory to celebrate her life. Washburn-McReavy.com
