Savran, Bill passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones, on Rosh Hashanah, September 20, 2020. Bill was born October 12th, 1935, on Sukkot, in Bismarck, North Dakota to immigrant parents, where his father owned People's Department Store. His family moved to Minneapolis when he started college at the University of Minnesota. He served in the Peacetime Army in the 50s in the same platoon as Elvis. Bill is best known for being the owner and visionary behind Savran's Books, a Minneapolis institution near the University for more than 20 years. He was an avid gardener and nature-lover, and a handy-man (he owned "A Real Mensch Repairs" after the book store closed). He loved dogs and had several devoted Labrador retrievers. He was very creative, a talented writer, an artist, and of course loved to read. He was a real family man who took things slow and at his own pace, particularly eating! He is preceded in death by parents, Gordon & Sarah Savran; brother, Arthur Savran; sister, Abetta Helman, and his grandson, Gabe Lilienthal. He is survived in death by his three children, Deborah Savran (Jed Kaufman), Jessica Savran (Jason Tarasek), Jeremy Savran (Chaz Barnum); grandchildren Noa Lilienthal, Evan Tarasek, and Ari Tarasek - as well as a large extended community of family and friends who adore him. Memorial Service will be held on his 85th birthday: October 12th, 2020 7pm CT Join us on Zoom:… Memorials to TPT
