Nielsen, Brooks R. Born March 12, 1924Died July 25, 2020. Brooks was born in Hayfield Minnesota to parents Christian Nielsen and Anna (Peterson) Nielsen. After graduating high school in Hayfield in 1942, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and served in World War II until 1945. In July 1945, while on leave, he married Doris E Thompson. After the war they attended the University of Minnesota. They had two sons, Dr Jon Scott, and Bradley Brooks. Brooks enjoyed much of each summer for several years at the family cabin on Big Sandy Lake with wife and family. They also spent many winters in Mesa AZ. Brooks worked for Welander-Quist Funeral Services for many years before retiring. He then worked with Doris as the framing technician in "Doris Nielsen Studio" art framing business until 2000. Brooks was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Brooks was preceded in death by wife Doris, and parents Christian and Anna Nielsen. Brooks was survived by children Jon(Kirsten), and Bradley(Beverly): grandchildren Anna, Andrew, Maggie, and Michael: great- grandchildren Grace, Jack, Lucy, Bailey, and Tyler: sister Shirley(Don) Bodenner, and nieces and nephews. Brooks and Doris were inseparable and very happy over their 74 years of marriage. A family only graveside memorial service for both Brooks and Doris will be held.
