Schmitt, John J. age 82 of Shakopee, passed away 4/2/2020 in the presence of his family. Survived by wife, LeVaun; children, Karen (Mark) Morris, Laurie (Randy) Gregor, Michael (Connie), and Patrick (Alison); 3 grandsons and 4 great grandchildren; siblings, Thomas (Dianne), Joanne (Ronald) Brixius, and Joseph. John spent his entire career in finance at Unisys, Owens Illinois and Control Data. John was in the Army Reserves and an usher at the Church of St Mary. He was active in Jaycees and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the original St Francis Hospital planning board and participated on several Shakopee School District referendums. John was a Shakopee city planning commissioner and after retirement was elected Mayor of Shakopee for eight years. John enjoyed trains, his coffee group, golf league and playing cards with friends and family. Visitation Thursday, Aug. 6, from 4-8 pm; visitation also Friday, Aug. 7, from 9:30-10:30 am both at McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation, 1220-3rd Ave. E., Shakopee, 952-445-2755.
