Yoerks, Christopher Alan My father, Christopher Alan Yoerks, born on July 4, 1958, passed away June 22, 2020. Chris is survived by me, his 14-year-old daughter, Sophia. He is preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ann and Alan "Al." My dad was raised in Bloomington, attending Southwood Elementary Schools where he created relationships with lifelong friends, Dave Kennedy, Rob Wohlfarth and John Vittera. He played baseball and began at an early age to follow the Twins and Vikings, a passion that only heightened over time. He attended Jefferson Senior High School and found his passion for music as a percussionist and drummer with the Jefferson band. This sparked a passion that lasted a lifetime. After high school, while working an unforgiving job as a drywall sander, he played music gigs on the side. He later played with many local bands such as The Beads, Gold Standard, Samoa, James Hersch and Phil Griffin, Late for Lunch, and others. Music was his oxygen. Self-taught and passionate, he produced his own albums, Trains in the Night and Azure. My dad attended St. Paul Technical College in 1996, enhancing his already rapidly developing self-taught skills as a computer programer for a music software company. He started to work full time in the technology field for different companies around the cities. In 2002 he met my mom, and in 2005 they were married and I was born. In most recent years, my dad developed a strong bond with Mark Chirhart and his Hopkins crew. Many nights of laughter, stories and comradery were had. His sense of humor, quick wit, infectious smile/laugh, and compassionate spirit drew many close to him. My dad was a great teacher, good man and wonderful father. He will be missed dearly by all. A celebration of his life will be on August 14 at 2 pm at Washburn-McReavy Dawn Valley Cemetery (graveside service). Following the service we will have a memorial for family and friends (address provided at the service) with music, food, drinks and stories, in honor of his amazing life.
