Stroebel, Reverend Frederick Charles 97, of Ramsey, left us for his heavenly home on May 27 after a long, full and rewarding life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers William and George. He was born in Milwaukee, WI on Feb. 23, 1923 to Fred and Augusta Orthmann Stroebel the second of four siblings. His Father died of Hodgkins when Fred was five and left his Mother with four children under age seven so Fred spent time being loved and cared for by many relatives living near by. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1943, he was drafted into the army as his brothers Bill and George enlisted as well. Three brothers in the war at the same time! Fred went in as a Conscientious Objector and was trained as a medical, surgical tech and worked with Mash units in Australia, the Philippines, New Guinea, etc. until his discharge in 1944. He lost his younger brother, George in the conflict. In 1946 he married Grace Mohns and they reared four children. He chose to prepare for the Christian Ministry and so began college at Anderson College in Anderson, Ind and then went on to Seminary at Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio. During these years he went to school, raised his family and served churches, drove school bus, etc, He was a hard working, dedicated father and student. In 1953 he was ordained into the Christian Ministry by the Methodist Church. In the next 37 years he served churches in Grafton and Greenwich, Ohio, Eau Claire and Fond du Lac, and Platteville WI .and Anoka, MN. moving into the United Church of Christ. After his divorce he remarried Sandy Gasch in 1977. She served with him the last 10 years of his ministry. They were fortunate to have many good years of travel and spending winters in their AZ retreat in their retirement. He leaves behind his wife, Sandy of 42 years. His sister Grace Murray of Virginia, daughter, Nannette of Minneapolis, daughter Patti (James) Taffel of VT., son George (Ilze) of Amery, WI, and son Chip (Venus) of St. Paul. He was proud to have four grandsons Matt (Megan), Peter (Jesse), Will (Giota) and Jon (Carrie). And six great grandchildren. The Scott Johnson family was special to him as well as many other friends and relatives. He referred to his children as "his jewels" and liked to repeat the Bible passage of "Let the children come unto me." Fred loved music and chose the song "Jesus Loves Me" as his go to in his last days. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and his jokes. He so enjoyed his companionship with his "good brothers" at the cabin on the Yellow river and at the Bodin cabin on Bond Lake. He loved playing tennis, golf, gardening, hunting, any kind of card games and reading. We will miss your smile and that twinkle in those blue eyes. We are grateful for the care givers at Champlin Shores Assisted Living and Memory Care for their love and care this past year especially through the lock down period. We are also grateful for the love and care given from the Elk River Union Church and Rev. Robin. We would be planning a Memorial service to celebrate his life when we feel it is safe from the virus. Please give all memorials to Mayo Clinic or Union Congregational Church of Elk River, or your favorite charity. No need for flowers!
