Gebhart, Richard Maxwell, M.D. 67, passed away at home in Maple Grove, MN on May 15, 2020, ending his three-year journey through cancer with grace, dignity, and humor. Rick grew up in Wheaton, Minnesota and attended North Dakota State University and then the University of North Dakota Medical School. He was a family physician with Camden Physicians, now North Memorial Health, from 1984 through his cancer diagnosis in 2017. Professionally, Rick was motivated by his deep care for others and cherished the human interaction of family medicine. He was well-known as a gifted storyteller and was especially fond of recounting tales of friends, family, and his many travels. He was very proud of his Scottish ancestry. Rick is survived by his wife of almost 39 years, Connie Gebhart of Maple Grove, MN, and his children: Angela (Brooks) Varnum of Buffalo, MN and Thomas Gebhart (Samantha Harding) of Minneapolis, MN; sister: Jean (Charles) Bon of Robinson, ND; brothers-in-law: Randall Kraft of Maple Grove, MN and Russell (Paula) Kraft of Alta Loma, CA; parents-in-law: Terrence and Donna Kraft of Mesa, AZ; and many other relatives, in-laws, and out-laws. He is preceded in death by his parents: Dick and Beth Gebhart, and numerous aunts and uncles. A private funeral mass will be held, followed by a public virtual reception. A burial is planned for a later date in Bismarck, ND along with memorial celebrations in Bismarck, ND and Wheaton, MN. Details will be shared with family and friends once gathering restrictions are lifted. The family would like to thank Dr. Levine and the staff at North Memorial Cancer Center and Home Hospice for their excellent care and compassion.
