Drilling, Alice M. Age 96, of Hopkins, formerly of Minneapolis, died peacefully due to complications from COVID-19 on Saturday, May 16, 2020. Alice was born in Boyd, Wisconsin on June 1, 1923 to George and Mary (Kastorff) Robertson. Because she was born on June 1, she was given the nickname "June Bug," which always made her smile. Alice was the seventh of eight children and was especially close to her younger brother James. Alice graduated from Boyd HS where she played the trumpet. She attended the Eau Claire Vocational School where she studied typing, shorthand and business. Alice married Neil A. Drilling, the love of her life, on January 21, 1954 on a day that was 25 degrees below zero. Alice and Neil settled in South Minneapolis and were happily married for 62 years before Neil died in 2006. Alice was an avid gardener and rivaled most almanacs with dozens of years of rainfall data meticulously documented. She loved her neighbors, the Minnesota Twins, having a cold beer on her screen porch and dancing with Neil. Although Alice and Neil had no children of their own, Alice was a surrogate mother, grandmother and babysitter to many children in their neighborhood. Alice enjoyed robust conversation while sharing smiles and bringing joy to everyone around her. Interment at Fort Snelling. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Augustana Chapel View whose wonderful staff were like family to Alice. Washburn-McReavy.com Dawn Valley Chapel 952-941-7686
