Babcock, Gloria Jean 56, passed unexpectedly at home in Asheville, NC, March 22nd, 2020 due to heart disease. Gloria, was born on June 15th, 1963 in Minneapolis to Rose Marie (Hansen) and Albert Babcock. Second youngest in a tight-knit family of 8, she graduated West High Class of 81. In 95 in the Joshua Tree desert, she gave birth to light of her life, Dumaine Joto Babcock. Glo was an artist, entrepreneur, caregiver, performer, bartender, hairdresser & ritual officiant, Dumaine the sun at the center of her solar system, her family/friends supportive planets in orbit. Preceded in death by father, Albert, brother Thomas; survived by beloved son Dumaine of Atlanta, GA, mother Rose; siblings James (Peggy) Babcock, Bonita (Jim) Hoffman, Marjorie (Allan Ernst) Babcock, Sharon (Timothy) McCabe, many nieces, nephews, relatives & countless friends she loved like family, and her sweet dog Olive. Gloria Jean, Miss Glo & just Glo imbued art, sacredness & magic in life, officiating rituals, cooking amazing meals, crafting beautiful cocktails. Possessing a powerful healing presence. Her laughter, wit & humor were incandescent. Artist Glo loved to costume extravagantly, sew & paint, decorate & adorn every surface & person within her reach. Friendships spanned the globe. Glo will be remembered as one who nourished loved ones deeply with generosity of spirit & wisdom of life experience. Lived her life to the hilt with grace and beauty. She will be deeply missed. Memorials preferred to the family. Celebration of Life will be planned in the future.
