Ayres, Glenn April 28, 1942 - February 27, 2019 Glenn Ayres, a consummate gentleman who enriched the lives of all who knew him, died in Coronado, California on February 27 of Alzheimer's disease, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Omaha on April 28, 1942, Glenn spent his formative years in Cloquet, MN, excelling in academics, as well as in football, golf, tennis, and skiing. After attending the University of Nebraska, where he was a member of Delta Upsilon Fraternity and was active in theater and the Army ROTC, he graduated in 1965 with a degree in Business Administration. He then entered University of Minnesota Law School and the Army Reserves, after which he became an Army JAG lawyer, serving in the U.S. and Europe, followed by private law practice in St. Paul as a trust and estate attorney. This evolved into a specialty in family business, ultimately becoming his life's work and legacy. As an adjunct professor at the University of St. Thomas, Glenn required his masters-level students to bring their parents to his class, where they learned sound business practices while exploring family values and interpersonal relationships that glue the generations together. After earning a doctorate in organizational development from the University of St. Thomas, Glenn became a founding member of the University's Center for Family Enterprise, where he served for several years as a professional-in-residence and member of the center's advisory board. He became a consultant to family businesses across the United States and Europe. He was a board member and past president of the Family Firm Institute, an international organization dedicated to family business throughout the world. Upon retirement from Fredrikson and Byron law firm in Minneapolis in 2004, Glenn turned to full time-consulting from his home in Coronado, California. Glenn is survived by his wife of 25 years, Carolyn Ayres; daughters Elizabeth (John) Runyon, and Jodi (Heather) Ayres and grandchildren Abby and Jake Runyon. A Minnesota memorial is being planned. Memorials are requested for the IAMRESOURCES Foundation, dedicated to helping children, headed by his long-time consulting partner, Dr. Iris Cornelius, 1099 Snelling Avenue South, St. Paul, MN 55116
