Braun, John Joseph age 89, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on November 28. He is survived by his loving wife, Marie Powers Braun; son Matt Braun (Mindy) and daughter Becca Braun (Peter Goepfrich); grandchildren, Will Braun, Jack, George and Hank Goepfrich, and Sena Braun; sister Martha Bray; sisters-in-law Leary Braun, Betty Morson (Mike) and Kathy Powers; and more than 50 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Henry Braun and Mary Schoenberg Braun; sisters Katherine Schulte, Lucille Schulte, and Mary Ann Imdieke; and brothers Al and Ralph Braun. John held degrees from St. John's University, MN, Notre Dame, IN, and George Williams College in IL, and possessed a lifelong thirst for knowledge and understanding. As a young man, John entered the Catholic priesthood and served as a parish priest for 13 years. He left the priesthood in 1971 to marry Marie Powers. Marie and John were Licensed Clinical Social Workers and owned and operated an out-patient mental health and chemical dependency clinic. Known for his unwavering compassion and tireless dedication to making the world a better place, John was loved by all who knew him. He was an adored husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, brother and friend. His indomitable spirit lives on through the people he loved. Funeral service at St. Joan of Arc Church, 4537 Third Avenue South, Mpls on Saturday, Dec. 8. Gathering at 11:00 am, Mass at 12:00 noon, lunch at 1:00 pm. Memorials preferred to WAMM.
