Blumenthal, Dr. Malcolm Nolan Age 85, of Minneapolis, passed away November 14th. Preceded in death by parents, Jacob Solomon and Hannah Rachel Blumenthal. Survived by wife, Marsha; children, Jacob Blumenthal (Susanne Goldstein), Susanna Blumenthal, and Debra Blumenthal (Stephen White); sister Myra Shapiro; and grandchildren, Samuel and Hannah Blumenthal and Lydia White. Dr. Blumenthal grew up in Columbia Heights, graduating from U High and earning both undergraduate and M.D. degrees from the University of Minnesota. After internship at Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, he completed a medical residency at UMN and the VA, followed by a fellowship in Allergy at the University of Michigan. He returned to practice in downtown Minneapolis, where he inherited many patients from his father and forged relationships with those he treated that extended beyond their medical care. His relentless optimism, combined with frank honesty and humor, were hallmarks of his way of caring and advocating for his patients. Continuously engaged as a clinician, researcher, and educator, Dr. Blumenthal also led the Allergy program that his father had founded at the University, training a new generation of Allergists. An internationally-recognized expert in asthma and immunology and an intrepid traveler, his research collaborations took him all over the world, usually with his wife and/or children. He was a loving, always-upbeat husband, father, brother and grandfather. Generous, empathetic, and supportive, he was committed to serving others and enjoying life. Those who knew him will remember his sartorial preference for running shoes, no matter the occasion. Funeral service 2:00 P.M.
