Carlson, Duane Byron age 84, of New Brighton, MN, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday, August 5th, 2018. He was born on March 26, 1934 in Cloquet, MN. After graduating from High School in 1952, he attended carpentry school in Duluth, before joining the US Air Force in 1953. While in Europe, he was so glad he had time to go visit relatives in Sweden. After returning home in 1957, he attended University of Minnesota Duluth, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration. While at UMD, he met his wife of 58 years, Marlene (Jensen) Carlson. Duane worked as a Director of Materials for many medical start-up companies. Duane was an old car enthusiast, loved researching his family history, and would read everything he could get is hands on. As a lifelong learner, he encouraged everyone he met to continue their education. Proceeded in death by his parents, Arnold C and Myrtle F (Sanborn) Carlson, brother Arnold S Carlson, and sister-in-law Donna Carlson. He is survived by his wife and four children, Kelly (Tom) Lininger, Curt (Kari) Carlson, Kristen (Mike) Bockelman, and Elliot (Rachel) Carlson. He was a devoted grandpa to seven grandchildren, Sydney, Rachel, Jenna, Taylor, Mandy, Martin, and Ana. A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday August 11th, with visitation one hour prior, at Nativity Lutheran Church, 3312 Silver Lake Road NE, St. Anthony, MN.
