Cloutier, Joan Elizabeth February 12, 1936 - March 3, 2018 Joan Cloutier, 82, passed away on Saturday March 3, 2018 in Oakland, CA surround-ed by her loving and devoted daughters. She was a 46 year resident of Oakland. Joan was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Cortlen Leo Cloutier and Lillian Elizabeth (Mattson) Cloutier and was the second of three children. She is predeceased by her parents and siblings Cortlen Cloutier and Barbara (Cloutier) Gallagher. Joan was a caring and generous mother, grandmother, and aunt who adored her family and found great pleasure in spending time with all them. Despite being away from family in Minnesota, Joan would talk often about all of her nieces and nephews, and took great pleasure in being kept abreast of events that touched each of their lives. She is survived by her daughters Diane (Eddy) Gutierrez and Carolyn (Neil) Cunningham. She will be deeply missed by her seven grandchildren, whom she loved dearly; Tatiana, Isabella, Mario, and Dominic Gutierrez and Brendan, Michael, and Kevin Cunningham. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express tremendous gratitude to Norma, Joan's amazing caretaker who, for the final year of her life, provided Joan with loving support and joyful companionship to her "Delicate Flower". Joan received a BA in 1957, completed Graduate School of Psychology in 1958, and graduated from Medical School in 1962, all from the University of Minnesota. She worked several years as a Clinic Physician. Later in her career she completed her Residency in Adult and Child Psychiatry. As a Psychiatrist, she worked many years in Los Angeles and Stockton, CA, while always maintaining her permanent residence in Oakland. Joan also worked part time at the State Prison for Woman in Chowchilla and for the Department of Corrections in Soledad, CA. She was a member of the American Psychiatric Society, the Alameda/Contra Costa Medical Society, the American Medical Association, and the California Medical Association. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 7th at Our Lady of the Lake Church, 2385 Commerce Blvd. Mound, MN. Viewing 10 AM, Funeral Service 11 AM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Edgewood Center for Children and Families, The University of Minnesota Medical School Future Physicians Scholarship, or charity of your choice.
