While most golfers in the metropolitan area were lamenting Monday's snowstorm, about 75 opportunistic souls in the east Metro were able to scratch their golf itch before the storm hit.

Oak Marsh Golf Course in Oakdale opened at noon Sunday. Steve Whillock, the Director of Golf at Oak Marsh, said the course had a good turnout.

"We're traditionally one of the first courses to open and one of the last to close," Whillock said. "Sunday, the practice range was full and we had about 75 players able to get out and play."

Then the snow forced Oak Marsh to close the course until the end of the week, putting a damper on the course's plans.

"Opening early is a good marketing tool for us, so we're taking a little bit of a hit [because of the snow]," Whillock said. "We're hoping we might be able to open again on Thursday, but right now we're taking tee times for Friday, Saturday and Sunday."
