Coach Tracy Claeys said Wednesday in a live chat on GopherSports.com that the team is considering adding helmet stickers.

Asked if there will be any changes to the team's uniforms, Claeys said no but added, "We are looking at a way to do game performance helmet awards." He later added that they wouldn't be something that would "take up the whole helmet."

It was an interesting twist for the Gophers with all the other national signing day news.

Claeys also said in the live chat that the team will have two or three scholarship openings after signing day that the team will fill, if needed, after spring ball.

Claeys said incoming freshman Tyler Johnson will start out playing wide receiver. Claeys said the staff views Kamal Martin as a defensive player, either a linebacker or defensive end, depending how he fills out. Claeys also said CB Kiondre Thomas "reminds us of Eric Murray."

Overall, Claeys said, this is the "most athletic" class the Gophers have signed since Jerry Kill's staff took over the team.

Whether it’s running the ball or catching it out of the backfield, it’s expected the Gophers will lean heavily on junior running back Darius Taylor.
