Friday through Sunday: Art-a-Whirl, northeast Minneapolis' annual culture bacchanal, roars through again this weekend, bringing all the usual open studios, art tours, free bus and trolley transportation, family-friendly fun and a silent auction to benefit its sponsor, the Northeast Minneapolis Arts Association (NEMAA). Some 30,000 visitors are expected to shuffle through more than 500 artists' studios before hustling off to dine and sip craft beer at neighborhood bistros. Of note: Be sure to check out "American Moments," a show of 30 classic black-and-white photos by Toby Olds, a Stillwater native and University of Minnesota grad whose 40 years of camera work have generated four books and innumerable exhibits. His Americana photos at Icebox include investigations of the New York fashion and disco scenes, visits to an insane asylum, circus and boxing pictures, street scenes and an inside look at a religious theme park.
