No. 5 Gophers roll over Louisville in volleyball

The No. 5 Gophers volleyball team swept Louisville 25-10, 25-12, 25-13 on Friday in the ACC-Big Ten Challenge in Chapel Hill, N.C. Freshman Alexis Hart led Minnesota (4-1) with 13 kills while Sarah Wilhite had 12. Molly Lohman had eight blocks, leading the Gophers to a 15-4 dominance in that stat.

Minnesota hit .462, the Cardinals .038 in falling to 4-3.

Next the Gophers will play host and No. 11 North Carolina (6-0) at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Going into this weekend, the Tar Heels, who upset No. 2 Wisconsin 3-2 in the second match in Chapel Hill, were first in the nation in blocks per set (3.67), the Gophers third (3.40).

• The Gophers men's team finished second in the Oz Memorial cross-country meet at Les Bolstad Golf Course with 51 points, paced by Matt Welch, who placed fifth. Wisconsin won with a team total of 25. Minnesota won the women's meet with the same winning total — the Badgers were second with 38 — led by Madeline Strandemo, Megan Hasz and Bailey Ness were second through fourth.
