Ten seconds of fame When it comes to the Ten Second Film Festival, novelty has become tradition on July 4th. Each year, hundreds of people submit 10-second "movies" (shot on cell phones and digital cameras) to this ridiculously fun mini-film fest, which generates about 3,000 attendees. The finalists are shown after the Minneapolis Riverfront fireworks (10:30 p.m.) behind the Soap Factory art gallery. Punk/garage rock band Private Dancer kicks off the night at 8 p.m. Beer will be consumed. A celebrity panel will choose the winners.

8 p.m. Sun. 514 SE. 2nd St., Mpls. Free. 612-623-9176. www.soapfactory.org.

Town Hall 2 Town Hall Brewery thought it would be cool to head to St. Paul for its second location. After scouting locations for a year, it finally found the right spot -- in Minneapolis. The celebrated brewpub will open the Town Hall Tap at the busy restaurant corner of 48th and Chicago in south Minneapolis (next to Adrian's in the old L'Ecosse space). Owner Peter Rifakes hopes to open in late August or September. His original Seven Corners brewery will produce several new beers to be sold exclusively at the new bar. Rifakes said he hopes to have about 24 taps, which he'll fill out with his own beer, plus a wide selection of craft brews and imports. Rifakes' team began working on the 2,700-square-foot space this week. The from-scratch menu will consist of burgers and sandwiches. Rifakes said he hasn't given up on opening a St. Paul location, but this spot was too good to pass up. "I just think we found the perfect place," he said. "We love the neighborhood."

Return to Lowertown After a slight delay, David Fhima's Faces Mears Park opened this week. The Lowertown restaurant/bar/deli/bakery is deja vu for Fhima, who opened LoTo in the same space several years ago (but relinquished it after his restaurant empire imploded). The chef has reinvigorated the large space, which has gorgeous views of Mears Park. He's also added a sleek new lounge, which will serve wine, craft beer and free-trade espresso. The original bar (with rocks encased in a glass countertop) still anchors the restaurant, which will serve organic American cuisine.
