Strip pubs Going downtown tonight? Don't be shocked if you see more scantily clad clubgoers than usual. Five clubs have come together for what they're calling the "First Avenue Strip Pub Crawl." They're encouraging people to strip for a good cause. OK, no one will actually be stripping, but in order to participate, you have to donate one clothing item at each venue. The crawl starts at the 508 Bar and goes on to the Loon, Drink, Envy and Bootleggers. They literally want the shirt off your back (or any other piece of gently used clothing). The clothes will go to Caring and Sharing Hands. There will be drink specials at each spot, but you have to sign up for a wristband at the 508 Bar between 7 and 8 p.m.
7 p.m. today. 508 Bar, 508 1st Av. N., Mpls. 612-339-0036. 508.com.
Groveland's many taps Here's some news on a great beer bar that sometimes gets overlooked. About six years ago, the Groveland Tap in St. Paul was a 3.2 bar -- meaning, they only served weak beer. Over the years the bar has upped its game. And last month, Groveland added another 13 draft lines, bringing its lineup to a whopping 34 taps. Nowadays they have all sorts of crazy craft beers, from Goose Island Matilda to Tyranena Rocky's Revenge. The bar also claims to be the No. 1 seller of Summit. They back it up by having every Summit available on draft (eight total) and offering them on their own daily happy hour (Pints are $2.25 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.-1 a.m.).
Open 11 a.m.-1 a.m. 1834 St. Clair Av., St. Paul. 651-699-5058. grovelandtap.com.
Print party It was a busy 2008 for the poster art crew Burlesque of North America, especially during election season. Its posters of Barack Obama were a hot item and could be seen all over the Twin Cities. Burlesque is giving fans a chance to see all of what they did last year with Saturday's show, "We Know What We Did Last Summer." It takes place at Burlesque's First Amendment Arts studio. Besides the Obama prints, the show will feature work by Deuce Seven, Aaron Horkey, Jake Bannon and more. Expect music by a two-man band called New Kids on the Glock (they play the glockenspiel). The Burlesque DJs will also be on hand.
