Two Sundays ago, I wrote a story detailing the nightlife adventures of the over-40 crowd -- specifically when it comes to dancing. Apparently, there aren't enough dance floors for the mature set. I mentioned places such as Santorini's, Bunkers, Redstone and the Minnesota Music Cafe. Reader feedback was aplenty, including suggestions for spots I didn't write about. Here are a few:
Mancini's: Classic St. Paul restaurant has live music Wed.-Sat. (531 W. 7th St., St. Paul. 651-224-7345. www.mancinis.com.)
Eagles Club: Musty south Minneapolis bar has live bands and a popular square-dancing night every other Mon. (2507 E. 25th St., Mpls. 612-729-4469. www.minneapoliseagles34.org.)
The Lounge: Downtown dance club that attracts a slightly older crowd than the typical shot-slamming ilk. (411 2nd Av. N., Mpls. 612-333-8800. www.theloungempls.com.)
Medina Ballroom: A true entertainment complex with a bar, bowling alley and a massive ballroom. Bret Michaels is scheduled for June 4. (500 Hwy. 55, Medina. 763-478-6661. www.medinaentertainment.com.)
PvD returns In my interview with Paul van Dyk last year, the superstar DJ told me a gig in Minneapolis is "just as important as something big in Berlin or London." If the buzz in the dance scene is any indication, the German DJ's Friday set at Epic will be packed with fans eager to hear his ever-evolving electronic sound.
9 p.m. Fri. 110 N. 5th St., Mpls. $25. 18 and older. 612-332-3742. www.epicmpls.com.
Bobby Lee at the MOA Korean-American comedian Bobby Lee was a standout on Fox's "MADtv" for his impressions of Kim Jong Il and characters such as Haidiki the Average Asian. Although the show was canceled last year, Lee's stand-up act shouldn't be missed. He's at the House of Comedy this weekend.
