What's missing in the downtown Minneapolis club scene? Good country music, says Gene Suh. The young businessman behind the Lyndale Tap House will open a yet-to-be-named country bar in the old Lodge space this September. His team will begin construction this week. Suh has been prowling around downtown for months with several concepts in mind. He settled on country because he thought it could "provide an alternative to the Top 40 bars" that dominate downtown. Obviously Toby Keith's I Love This Bar in St. Louis Park has shown that there is a healthy appetite for this demographic in the Twin Cities. But Suh said he won't go over-the-top with the country theme. He wants his DJs to mix old-schoolers like Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings with such party-bar favorites as Guns N' Roses. Think Cowboy Slim's but with a huge dance floor. The Lodge space, 11 S. 5th St. (across from Spin), has been vacant since 2008. The themed look of Suh's party bar will include cowhide booths and additional seating made out of tractor seats. Suh said he also wants to host live music and a line-dancing night (and maybe even a gay night). Check back here for more details.

Going gaga for DJ Dan West Coast house-music pioneer DJ Dan is back in the Twin Cities Friday with a show at Karma. Dan has been busy with the various releases surrounding his first artist-driven album, "Future Retro." Even if you aren't familiar with him, chances are you've heard one of his remixes -- he's been on a Lady Gaga tear lately.

World Cup finale A month of vuvuzelas is enough to drive anyone crazy. But it's almost over. The finale of the World Cup takes place at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. There will be plenty of bars at which to watch the game, but might I suggest the Nomad World Pub, which kicked off the Cup with a huge party back in June. Owner Todd Smith hopes to replicate that success with another block party (and no rain). He's bringing back the Jumbotron, the live music and the food. He also wants to have Brazilian dancers (who might be replaced with Dutch dancers -- it's still up in the air). One thing's for sure: a good time will be had by all. White Light Riot and Cadillac Kolstad will provide the post-game music.

11 a.m. Sun. (game is at 1:30 p.m.). 501 Cedar Av. S., Mpls. Free. 612-338-6424. www.nomadpub.com.
