Sidhe Brewing celebration

It's no secret the East Side of St. Paul is enjoying a food and drink renaissance. Sidhe Brewing Co. is one of the latest entries east of downtown. After opening softly a few weeks ago, the small brewery throws a grand opening party this weekend, starting at 4 p.m. Friday with live music, poetry, comedy performances and more.

City Pages beer bash

Since Minnesota's Great Beer Awakening, beer festivals are as synonymous with Twin Cities summers as block parties. On Saturday, City Pages (hey, the Star Tribune owns them) kicks off the season with its annual beer bash. The alt-weekly has assembled 34 breweries and beer brands, including Bauhaus Brew Labs, Indeed and Mike's Hard Lemonade, for the rain-or-shine party in downtown Minneapolis.

Communion reconvenes

Though summertime dance party Communion has had trouble finding a consistent home the past few years, the seasonal Sunday event is still going strong. Led by local DJ and promoter Centrific, the popular afternoon-till-bar-close affair begins its ninth year of weekly warm-weather parties, this year at the Lumber Exchange Building in downtown Minneapolis. The season starts with performances from etones, Christian James, Doubt, Durbin, TML and more. As always, early birds pay less with Communion's tiered pricing — $10 before 4 p.m., $15 from 4-7 p.m. and $20 after. Enter via the garage doors on 5th Street.

3 p.m. Sun., 21-plus, $10-$20, 10 S. 5th St., Mpls.
