Here's a twist: Halloween theater

Too old for a haunted house? Too sober for the Zombie Pub Crawl? Two Minneapolis theaters want to get you in the Halloween spirit anyway. Next week, the Loring Theater brings back its Halloween performance/party, "Haunted Theater: Fallout." Attendees will be transported back to the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis with the theater doubling as a haunted fallout shelter. Guests, encouraged to dress the part, will roam the old theater's lower depths, and then party "Mad Men" style.

Zombierama

At the Parkway Theater it's "Zombierama" on Saturday. The movie house will celebrate all things zombie with host Ian Rans. The night includes a costume contest, drink specials, Joe "The Magician of the Living Dead" Lyon and a screening of George Romero's "Dawn of the Dead."

A Pig, a Fiddle and a whole lotta beer

It's been one busy week for Muddy Pig owner Mark Van Wie. Last Friday, he opened his long-awaited Pig & Fiddle near the corner of 50th and France (on the Minneapolis/Edina border). Van Wie describes the pub as a cousin to his acclaimed St. Paul beer bar. Same great craft beer, more emphasis on Euro-style comfort food. (3812 W. 50th St., Mpls., 952-955-8385.) Meanwhile, over at the original Pig, it's the fourth annual Belgian Beer Festival. The fest's tap takeover wraps up this weekend. The bar's draft lines have been filled with more than 85 Belgian and Belgian-style beers. Some have never been on tap in this market.

Night at the Museum

It's party time at the Walker Art Center this week. Friday's After Hours soirée invites museumgoers out for a night of cocktails and the opening of "Graphic Design: Now in Production" (9 p.m.-midnight, $25-$35). But don't forget to come back next Thursday -- especially if you're a student. One of the Walker's busiest Thursday nights of the year is for students and designed by students. Inspired by the new exhibit, "Student Open House: Get Scrappy" will feature plenty of design workshops, plus a show by Maria Isa and Muja Messiah.
