Nightlife: Boo and booze in the 'burbs

Ain't no party like a Maplewood party. The suburban megaclub Myth is throwing one ginormous, expensive Halloween extravaganza Saturday night.

The prize for best costume is $2,000. Sexiest costume gets $1,000. Best couple gets $1,000. And they're throwing more dough at the winners of scariest costume, best male and best female.

The dance party, dubbed Flesh & Fantasy, will feature aerialists, fire dancers, jugglers and something called "acro-hand balancing." The DJ lineup includes Jack Trash, Cities of Gold, D.Mil, Benjamin Michaels and many more.

So take that, downtown Minneapolis.

Speaking of Minneapolis, here are a couple more updates for your Halloween party planning. The folks behind Zombie Pub Crawl have put together a classier affair for Wednesday night at the Crave in downtown. It's called Promageddon. Ticket options for the rooftop party include a three-course prix fixe dinner beforehand ($40 a person, $75 a couple). The rooftop soirée, which will include plenty of heaters, is $15 (which gets you one free drink). Dress to impress: They'll crown a prom king and queen.

Last week I reported on Psycho Suzi's all-you-can-consume Halloween party. The tiki bosses have notified me that they've slashed the price from $45 to $30 (for advance tickets). That's a pretty good deal for an all-you-can-drink shindig of booze and fake blood.

Now open The Minneapolis restaurant/bar scene saw a flurry of openings in the past two weeks. Downtown, the Belmore/the New Skyway Lounge moved into the old City Billiards space and is looking to be a boho restaurant/rock club among the entertainment district's many party bars and dance clubs. It's owned by Ben Hill, but scenesters seem most jazzed about the re-emergence of Nick & Eddie wrangler Doug Anderson, who helped design the menu and is booking the music (25 N. 4th St., Mpls.).

Speaking of old flames, a Kickstarter-funded bistro called the Lynn on Bryant opened last week in the remade Patina building (which went up in smoke in 2010). The farm-to-table eatery offers a seasonal menu serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. (5003 Bryant Av. S., Mpls.)
