Devils' Bernier scores 100th career goal
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Steve Bernier scored twice, including the 100th goal of his career, in leading the New Jersey Devils to a 3-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres.
Scott Gomez and Adam Henrique set up both goals in helping New Jersey improve to 3-0-1 in its past four. Jordin Tootoo also scored for the Devils (31-29-11), who inched up the Eastern Conference standings by moving into a tie for 11th with Philadelphia. Backup goalie Keith Kinkaid stopped the first 27 shots he faced — and 28 overall — before having his shutout bid end with 8:19 left, when Matt Moulson scored a power-play goal.
The last-place Sabres (20-44-7) dropped to 1-6-2 in their past nine.
•TIMELY TIEBREAKER: Alex Killorn scored a tiebreaking goal midway through the third period, Ben Bishop made 30 saves and the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1. Tampa Bay also got goals from Anton Stralman and Steven Stamkos, who got his 40th this season on late empty-netter.
•DAD DUTY: New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, although medically cleared earlier this week after a vascular injury to his neck, won't rejoin his team for practice until Tuesday. He left Friday to be with his wife, who is expecting the couple's second daughter. Lundqvist has been sidelined since Feb. 2.
